Turkmenistan continues to strengthen Caspian Sea cooperation, and the country reaffirmed that commitment on January 10, 2026. On that day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted the 64th meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on Caspian Sea issues.
Deputy Chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers attended, together with representatives and heads of key ministries and sectoral government bodies. The participants gathered to assess the past year and to set the agenda for the months ahead.
Reviewing the 2025 results
During the meeting, participants reviewed what the group had achieved in 2025 under its approved Action Plan. They examined how the group implemented its assigned tasks and discussed the progress made over the year. The review highlighted completed objectives as well as areas that still require attention.
Priorities for Caspian Sea cooperation in 2026
The group then approved the Action Plan for 2026. Members gave particular attention to priority objectives for the first half of the year. They outlined concrete steps and assigned responsibilities to the relevant bodies.
Participants underlined Turkmenistan’s long-standing and proactive role in shaping balanced solutions on Caspian Sea matters. They noted the country’s contribution to strengthening the contractual and legal framework that guides the region. Turkmenistan pursues these efforts alongside the other Caspian littoral states and within the framework of international law.
The Interdepartmental Working Group meets regularly to coordinate national positions and align them with commitments under the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea. This structured approach keeps Caspian Sea cooperation at the centre of Turkmenistan’s regional and environmental agenda.
